New calling - 1/17/10

PS: This is for my journaling purpose - feel free to skip to a post with pictures. :)

Last week, I received a new calling. I had been serving with the Activity day girls (ages 8-11) for the past 3 years and have loved working with them and several wonderful leaders. We started with 2 leaders and 15 girls and at the end of the 3 years, had 6 leaders and about 20 girls. They were so much fun: excited to learn and loved being together even though they all went to different schools or home-schooled.

I was nervous to get a new calling - I dreaded getting called to be a Relief Society teacher - that would have given me ulcers and a one-way ticket to the insane asylum. My fear of public speaking is almost paralyzing. Luckily I didn't end up with that - and that's not an invitation to have me teach, speak or do anything of that nature.......

I am humbled and sort of feel like I've graduated from Activity Days to Relief Society Board leader aka Enrichment, aka Home, Family and Personal Enrichment, Homemaking, whatever you call it, this is where I am at and I'm the one in charge - deep breath........yes I will do it. I was still nervous to accept this calling as Jeff works so much still and I feared I would be unable to attend activities and make sure everything went as planned. I guess this is what a committee is for. :) Our friend Scott is now in the bishopric and was the one to interview me - a little strange because we already know each other and our families are close. He used to work with Jeff at Deloitte a few years ago. I feel old being on a first name basis and family friends with 2/3 of the bishopric.

These are some of the blessings and promises I received while being set apart - much needed and I know it was from the Lord because I received answers to my struggles as I accepted this new calling and new challenge.

blessed with the gifts of the spirit
inspired to help the sisters of RS - individually and as a whole
spiritually strengthen
work as a committee and board to serve the needs of the sisters through meaningful spiritual activities
be able to balance the calling and needs of my family
my family will be blessed as I serve in this capacity
prayer, continue reading the scriptures - the Lord will bless me and my family

As a side note, my mind thinks mostly in crafts, so we'll see what happens! :) I'm excited to work with the committee and a smaller ward - should make our job a lot easier.

I miss seeing you every Sunday and I will for sure miss you as my visiting teacher! You will be wonderful in that calling and fulfill so many wonderful sister's needs with your talents. I heard about the Palfreeman's. I called them to see if they need anything. IF you know of anything I could do for them please let me know. Meals, babysitting, anything....Love ya Alison
