South Mountain

It's no Grand Canyon that Steven and Jeff hiked the weekend before - Sept 21st, but the kids have been waiting, waiting and waiting!, to go on a hike with dad. They were so disappointed he didn't take them with to the Grand Canyon. So off we go to hike South Mountain.....interesting I think.
Water? check
Sunscreen? check
Sunglasses? check
Hiking shoes? not so sure - Mo doesn't normally wear 'shoes'
What the heck - let's go anyway. It'll be a nice and easy hike - sure.
 binoculars? check
 daddy! wait fo me!
Mo did alright, but I'm sure this felt like the Grand Canyon for his little legs and feet. I carried him most of the way.
finally made it to this little gazebo to rest. it was quite hot outside - can you see the red faces?!
Jeff looks worn out - haha
haha - the bars rotated after they moved their feet off the rocks
what shining examples they are of 'good behavior' for their son and nephew watching intently...
 downtown Phoenix
shoe check?? not the best hiking shoes - we lost the molding off the bottom - melted the glue right off. The shoes are only 20 years old I'm not sure why they would fall apart?!
No problem - we're just going straight back to the car - right? right? Jeff? Where are you going?? ugh.
We made it to the top of this next ridge - okay let's go back - Jeff really?? That's not a path!?
haha - Mo cried the whole time for me. He really didn't want me, he just didn't want to be on Jeff's shoulders - he hates it!
Lucas was a champ and climbed everywhere on his own without asking for help, except here where he grabbed the back of Jeff - we quickly nixed that and he happily kept going on his own.
I ended up carrying Mo once we got down that mountain behind us. 1 because he was slowing down and got easily distracted and 2 because I was hot and getting to hangry stage. that's hungry+angry=hangry. Mo was almost there too.

Lea got to wear the go-pro for part of the hike - she's pretty excited about that.
Can you see Mo starting to fall apart??
You know what solves 'hangry' for after a long HOT hike?? McDonald's with an indoor play place.
Hangry has been satisfied. Hiking and playing as a family - what more could you ask for? I think the smile says it all.

Growing up and cleaning out

Turns out I don't have much use for this
or this (both 9 years old)
when my 'babies' are doing this:
my little technology junkies courtesy of this guy - vacamaca Steven and my kindle fire.
so we take a little trip to DI and donate them for someone else to use for their babies.

Labor day parade

Our ward had a Labor Day Bike parade and breakfast. The kids were to decorate their bikes, then they'd get a chance to show off their decor in the parade. I was not so motivated to decorate, but the kids were EXCITED. The night before we spent a couple hours decorating with streamers, stickers and walmart bags - yes walmart bags. Jeff's a creative genius.
the older kids were the bike parade leaders - Sarah and Garrett
Abbey loved! her bike - especially the streamers made from (you got it!) walmart bags.
 notice the BYU tape???
 Luke's bike was on fire!
all the kids received suckers for their participation - best prize ever.

Chuck E Cheese

this kid is too funny - I love his laugh.

Aitkens once again invited us to a birthday party this time catered by Chuck E Cheese - love the Aitkens! Alex is so sweet and included Ammon and Lea in the birthday celebration too. How awesome is this cake and those heavenly cupcakes!?
Ammon and Hyrum are 3 days apart - Hyrum's birthday is on the 8th, Ammon - 11th.
Michelle's birthday is Aug 1st and Lea's is July 29th - 5 and 9. Our other kids even have birthdays close together so it makes for great fun when our families get together.
that's not scary form or anything...yikes.
 okay not so bad afterall.
Where a kid can be a kid! Happy birthday Lea, Michelle, Hyrum, and Ammon!
